VICTIM: Dailey, Mark D. W/M 02/01/59 Streets of Columbia
DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On 01/07/09, skeletal remains were located in a large homeless camp near the Conley Road and the I-70/63 connector. There was no identification found on this individual. A death investigation was initiated by the Major Crimes Unit.
During an examination by Boone/Callaway Medical Examiner’s Office, suspicious wounds were found to the face and neck area of the victim. The University of Missouri Department Of Anthropology was contacted and provided further examination of the skeletal remains. In addition, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Laboratory was utilized in this investigation.
Investigators were able to determine that the victim was possibly Mark D. Dailey. Investigators obtained DNA samples from family members who resided in Ohio.
02/27/09, DNA results proved the skeletal remains were those of Dailey. A death notification was made at that time to Dailey’s father.
On 04/20/09, the Medical Examiner’s Office released their findings. This incident is ruled a homicide and the cause of death was blunt force injuries to the face and stab wounds to his neck.
